June '20 Online Book Club Reviews

There will come a darkness by Katy Rose Pool, Review by Wei Li

The blurb didn't look too good, but I thought I'd try it, and I'm so glad I did because it's really good!

The story is told from five different perspectives. It's high fantasy. There's an extremist group, demons and a kidnapping.

Rated 4/5 Pale Bonds

We rule the night by Claire Eliza Bartlett, Review by Caitlyn

The story is written from two perspectives, two girls, Revna and Linne.

I'm still reading it at the moment. Revna works in a factory making stuff for war. Everyone has to evacuate because war is coming. There is a rigid class system: first class, working class and the non working class. Her family gets demoted to 2nd class, so they have no shelter or resources so they aren't doing too well. There's lots of propaganda. The perspective switches to Linne, who disguises herself in order to enter the army. She gets outed though so now she's kicked out. There are different types of magic in this world and some types are illegal...

Rated 4/5 "I like it so far but I don't have any plot yet."

Piglettes by Clementine Beauvais, Review by Pippa

It's a book a probably wouldn't have read, as it's geared a bit younger. The story line isn't very complicated, but that was nice for a change.

It's about three girls who are the "ugliest" girls in their school. For some reason, I don't know why yet, they are planning on going on a bike ride. They sell sausages to fund the trip and the media start following them.

Rated: 3/5 Sausages "Quite an easy read, which is nice for when I'm tired at the end of the day."

Wei Li's Favourite: Dealing with Dragons by Patricia C Wrede

This is a fantasy book set in a medieval time. Fans of Tamora Pieree will love it. It covers themes like sexism, but it's not overly dramatic or intense. The main character is a princess, but she wants to go and explore the world of magic.

Rated: 5/5 Dragons The characters are adorable and relatable -not in a gritty, dystopian way, lots of world building."

Pippa's Favourite: The Stars at Oktober Bend by Glenda Millar

It's really good, I'd recommend it for anyone. It's written like poetry.

Rated: 5/5 Stars "A beautiful book"
