The Book of Lies by James Maloney, Review by Wei Li

I really like this book, it has my favourite genres and themes, which are betrayal, deceit and lies!

So this kid Robert has been told that he is an orphan when he wakes up. His memories have been wiped by this sorcerer guy using The Book of Lies. He has been given a fake identity, but he doesn't know that. He gets "kidnapped" by this party of people who say he is the key to overthrowing the horrible King that overrules the kingdom. Robert, some kids and the people who took him go out on this wild adventure to try and free the captive prince and princess. But everything goes downhill when the princess tries to kill Marcel, Robert's best friend. Everyone has been lying to everyone...

Rated: 4/5 Books. "Minimal romance, lots of adventure and action. People who like Tamora Pierce would also like this series.  It's a teeny bit slow, and sometimes you get really at angry at the characters for being who they are, but that's just the writing. It's a series of three and I'm on the third now.

Tandem by Anna Jarzab, Review by Riya

I'm still reading it but I'm about halfway through. It's a sci fi book, set in a multi-verse. It starts with this girl named Sasha who lives with her grandpa. When she sleeps she dreams of a princess who looks exactly like her. She's in high school and she likes this guy Grant but he never talks to her until one day, when he asks her to prom. After prom they go to the beach and she finds out he isn't Grant - he's an analog from another universe called Aurora. Everyone has their own analog in each world, and in Aurora, Sasha's analog is the Princess Juliana. Juliana's father is in a sort of coma. Her step mother is ruling the world. Now Juliana is missing and Sasha must take her place....

Rated: 4/5 Universes. "It is really well written, and not slow at all, there is always something happening."

Lost and Found by Brooke Davis, Review by Erin

It's about this seven year-old girl named Millie who is abandoned at a department store by her mother. Her father had died and her mother wasn't coping. There's another guy, Carl, this really old dude, and he's run away from his nursing home. He can take care of himself, he can move around and he's got a sharp mind. He used to be a touch typist and his wife had passed away from cancer. He visits the department store every day and sits there with his coffee, not touching it. The girl stays at the department store for about a week, waiting for her mum to come and get her. She's terrified that someone is going to pick her up and take her away and then her mum won't be able to find her. She makes friends with Carl the touch typist because he gives her food. She tries to call her mum and finds out she's moving to Melbourne. She goes home and tries pack to leave with her, the apartment is deserted and an elderly neighbour who has lost her husband tries to help. Carl, the neighbour and Millie take a bus to Sydney and go on a huge adventure to find her mum.

Rated: 4.5/5 Mannequin legs. "A really satisfactory, but sad ending. It will break your heart, but it was worth it. Really fulfilling."

Pivot Point by Kasie West, Review by Henrietta

I've read two chapters so far. It's basically a book where everyone has some kind of weird power. The main character Addison she can see into the future. Right now her parents are getting divorced and so she is looking into different futures, the one with her mum and the one she could have with her dad in the real world. They live in a secret society with people who have powers, but he plans to live with regular people. It's very weird to do that where they come from and it is not seen as a good thing, there are bad vibes. That's where I'm up to right now. She's a really good author, I really like her writing style.

Rated: 3.5/5 Secret powers."I feel like it's going to go somewhere, good pacing, shaping up to be a really good book. Her plots are really elaborate and take you on a journey"

The Declaration by Gemma Malley, Review by Olivia

This is the book I'm reading for school at the moment. It's set in the future, basically there's this drug, Longevity which if you take it, will keep you alive. Because people are being  kept alive indefinitely, it has been decided that no one can have children any more. The only way you can have them is if you are granted special permission from the government. If you sign the declaration, you get to keep on living, but you sign away the right to have kids. Anna is an illegal, born to parents who had signed. She is one of the "surpluses" and lives in Grange Hall where the Surplus must learn to be silent, to cook, clean and serve. They must repay their debt to mother nature for being born.

Rated: 3/5 Surpluses. "It's really, really good. Sometimes it's a bit hard to like a book that you're reading at school but it's really well written"

This is Shyness by Leanne Hall, Review by Natasha

It's about these two people, wolf boy and wild girl. They meet at this club called the diabetics. They live in a world called Shyness, there is no sun in this world, only darkness. The sun has been gone for a couple of years and there are no parents there, they all left. The whole book is about the one night they spend together. They become friends, he gives her a tour around Shyness and then all of this stuff happens. They get robbed by The Kids, go on an adventure and share their stories. Wolf boy is really dark and sad and Wild girl was a victim of bullying, so they have a connection. It's about how just one night can change everything.

Rated: 3/5 Friendships. "It's an okay book, it has some good descriptive language, but it's quite slow at the start, and at the moment it's still slow, but good at the same time. It's not my favourite book and because it's assigned I have to read it in minute detail"

Winner Takes All by Jacqueline Rayner, Review by Ari

I've been reading Doctor Who spin offs. This latest one features the ninth Doctor and Rose. This alien species are war with another species. They create this new console which they put on earth. It's like you're playing a game, but it's actually really life and you are unknowingly a human on that planet fighting the war. The point of the game is to infiltrate the stronghold.I haven't finished it yet, I'm at the climax and the Doctor is travelling to the planet to stop them abducting more humans.

Rated: 4/5 Tardises
